Cleaning of Aluminum After Machining with Coolants

چکیده
Bobbi Roop Advanced Photon Source Argonne National Laboratory Argonne,IL 60439 An x-ray photoemission spectroscopic study was undertaken to compare the cleaning of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) aluminum extrusion storage ring vacuum chambers after machining with and ~thout water soluble coolants. While there was significant contamination left by the coolants, the cleaning process was capable of removing the residue. The variation of the surface and near surface composition of samples machined either dry or with coolants was negligible after cleaning. The use of such coolants in the machining process is therefore recommended.

Machining Magnesium With Watei Base Coolants
Magnesium Products Limited has been very successful in converting from machining magnesium die castings dry to machin'ng with oilin-water emulsions, more commonly called water soluble oils. When machining with water soluble coolants one can expect; 1) excellent fire protection; 2) improved tool life; 3 ) ease of housekeeping, and 4 ) improved productivity. Problems previously encountered with w...

Present work aims at multi-mechanical surface treatment of Ti-6Al-4V based-miniplate implant manufactured by electrical discharge machining (EDM) for biomedical use. Mechanical surface treatment consists of consequent use of ultrasonic cleaning, rotary tumbler polishing, and brushing. Surface layers are analyzed employing scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Al...
متن کاملMinimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) in Machining: Benefits and Drawbacks
Micro lubrication or also known as minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) serves as an alternative to flood cooling by reducing the volume of cutting fluid used in the machining process; but not without significant health concerns. Flood cooling is primarily used to cool and lubricate the cutting tool and work piece interface during machining process. The adverse health effects caused by the use of...
